Teaching and Learning

Curriculum, Instruction, Language, & Assessment (CILA)

The Department of Curriculum, Instruction, Language, & Assessment partners with educators, school leaders, students, and families to strengthen teaching and learning across East Aurora School District 131.

Our role is to help schools do their best work.

Through curriculum, instruction, language, and assessment, we provide the resources, expertise, professional learning, and support that help educators create meaningful learning experiences and ensure every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

Our Work

Curriculum

We develop and support coherent, engaging, standards-aligned learning experiences that build knowledge and skills from PreK through graduation.

Instruction

We strengthen teaching and learning by supporting educators and leaders with research-based practices, professional learning, coaching, and instructional resources.

Language

We honor and build upon students' linguistic assets while expanding opportunities for bilingualism, biliteracy, and biculturalism. Our work supports multilingual learners, bilingual and Dual Language programs, English language development, newcomer students, and world language learning.

Assessment

We help educators and leaders use meaningful evidence to understand student learning, identify needs, evaluate programs, and make informed decisions that improve outcomes.

We support the District’s important work with students by overseeing the areas of recruitment and retaining teachers and staff, labor relations, compensation, benefits, and employee development and performance.
