District 131 Welcomes New Student Members of the Board of EducationEl Distrito 131 da la Bienvenida a los Nuevos Miembros Estudiantiles de la Junta de Educación

At the September 15, 2025 Board of Education meeting, East Aurora School District 131 proudly welcomed Ziyaan Laliwala and Elizabeth Corral-Moreno as the new Student Members of the Board of Education for the 2025–2026 school year. Both students took the oath of office as required by the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB).

Ziyaan Laliwala

Ziyaan, a senior at East Aurora High School and former Allen Elementary and Fred Rodgers Magnet Academy student, has been active in academics and leadership throughout his time in District 131. Teachers describe him as approachable, influential, and a strong listener. Ziyaan says what he values most about East Aurora is that “everyone is tight knit and there for each other.”

Elizabeth Corral-Moreno

Elizabeth, also a senior at East Aurora High School, previously attended Dieterich Elementary and Fred Rodgers Magnet Academy. She has been a dedicated leader and an active part of the Tomcat community. Her teachers describe her as passionate and committed to both her school and community. Elizabeth says some of her favorite memories come from attending events with friends.

As Student Members of the Board, both Ziyaan and Elizabeth hope to represent their peers, share student perspectives, and strengthen the bridge between students and district leadership.

En la reunión de la Junta de Educación del 15 de septiembre de 2025, el Distrito Escolar 131 de East Aurora dio la bienvenida con orgullo a Ziyaan Laliwala y Elizabeth Corral-Moreno como los nuevos Miembros Estudiantiles de la Junta de Educación para el año escolar 2025–2026. Ambos estudiantes tomaron el juramento de cargo según lo requerido por la Asociación de Juntas Escolares de Illinois (IASB).

Ziyaan Laliwala

Ziyaan, estudiante de último año en la Escuela Secundaria East Aurora y exalumno de Allen Elementary y de la Academia Magnet Fred Rodgers, ha sido muy activo en lo académico y en el liderazgo durante su tiempo en el Distrito 131. Sus maestros lo describen como accesible, influyente y un gran oyente. Ziyaan comenta que lo que más valora de East Aurora es que “todos están unidos y se apoyan mutuamente”.

Elizabeth Corral-Moreno

Elizabeth, también estudiante de último año en la Escuela Secundaria East Aurora, anteriormente asistió a Dieterich Elementary y a la Academia Magnet Fred Rodgers. Ha sido una líder dedicada y una parte activa de la comunidad Tomcat. Sus maestros la describen como apasionada y comprometida tanto con su escuela como con su comunidad. Elizabeth comparte que algunos de sus recuerdos favoritos provienen de asistir a eventos con sus amigos.

Como Miembros Estudiantiles de la Junta, tanto Ziyaan como Elizabeth esperan representar a sus compañeros, compartir perspectivas estudiantiles y fortalecer el vínculo entre los estudiantes y el liderazgo del distrito.
